In honor of tonight's Dexter premiere, check out this promotional stunt Showtime pulled for the show back in 2007. The best part of their turning fountain water around the country blood-red? The fact that they deny the red liquid is meant to symbolize blood.
"Showtime appears to be very persistant on the fact that the red is to symbolize the network's corporate color, and not blood. It just so happens red is also the color of blood, and that the show DEXTER centers on a serial killer who also happens to be a forensics expert who deals with blood all day. No relation though. Showtime VP of Media and Promotions George DeBolt had this to say on the matter: 'We're not out there to frighten people. Red is an important color for the network. It's our corporate color. Whatever people take away from this is what they take away, but we're using the color red so that it's noticed. 'Dexter' is not a horror series," he added. "It's a series about a serial killer who happens to be in forensic police work. There is blood in the show, but we're not doing this to convey the notion of blood or horror because that would be off strategy with how we promote the show'."

Bloody shower curtains as far as the eye can see
I read about this shower curtain a while back on Gizmodo. Not only does it feature a silouetted murderer and splattered blood, but an included motion-activated speaker will play the theme from Psycho whenever someone enters the room. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it available anywhere. During my search though, I've come up with a large assortment of other bloody curtains..."Psycho shower curtain"
"Blood Bath shower curtain"
"Bloody shower curtain"
"Mad Mother Psycho shower curtain"
"Sicko shower curtain"
"Custom Psycho shower curtain"

Bleeding Billboards
A New Zealand-based ad agency created this billboard to remind drivers that they should drive
more slowly when it rains. Under sunny conditions, the billboard shows the image of a cute little boy. As soon as it starts to rain though, that little boy starts to bleed all over the place. (Click here for more information.)

Horror chokers
From the maker of yesterday's popular coffin coach comes a line of horror-themed necklaces. Choose from a variety of Frankenstein-esque stitches, throat-slit blood drops and toxic slime oozing chokers.

Bloody pillows
I like the bloody hatchet pillow set (though the angel & devil's not bad either).

Dexter's serial killer-friendly dining room
Interior designer Amy Lau created this a Dexter-themed dining room for the recent Met Home Showtime House event.
Bloody dinner plates, a blood-filled test tube centerpiece and blood stained furniture? Dexter would feel right at home.

Stolloween pumpkin making tutorial
I've been a fan of Stolloween's paper-mache work for a long time. That's one of the reasons why I'm so excited that he now offers a tutorial on how to create this patented style of pumpkin. Fair warning though... towards the end of the tutorial there is a very graphic photo of one of his fingers with the tip cut off. (Actually, there's also a photo of the severed tip sitting on a piece of newspaper, but I didn't find that quite as disgusting.)

Zooey Deschanel's Halloween video
This video for the song "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here" (by actress Zooey Deschanel's band "She & Him") is perfect for fans of the macabre. It features animated beheadings, ghosts, blood, and even skeleton nuns!

Zorran's Horror Finger
If you really want to freak out the trick-or-treaters this year, go out and buy yourself this simple magic trick. The effect looks like you're using a box cutter to cut halfway through your own finger. They'll definitely scream as blood seeps out of the wound. Very realistic looking and easy to do. Check out this video demonstration.
