Is it just me, or does it seem like skulls are appearing in more and more fashion spreads lately?

Fashion = Death
Via TrendLand...
"Japanese Artist Fumie Sasabuchi reworks the pages of fashion magazines and deconstructs the perception of a perfect physique and plays a lot with the subject of death. She uses this tool to freely explore an underlying surface, therefore creating hybrid body images in which promotional aesthetic is fused with
material naturalistic anatomical study." (For more examples of her work, click here.)

It's Tim Burton's world. We're only living in it.
Nearly a year ago I posted this article on a Tim Burton-inspired fashion spread. Well here's another one (from Harper's Bazaar) for all you Burton fans. "Shot by Tim Walker and entitled Tim Burton's Tricks and Treats, it's based on Tim Burton's universe and features the man himself alongside a dazzling array of goth frocs and some of his defining characters." And check out that gigantic skeleton marionette!
Where can I get one of those?

Fashion mag skull
I know that my duty as a red-blooded American male is to desire the topless blonde model in these photos.
But when I gaze upon this fashion magazine spread, my very first thought is "Wow! I want that giant silver skull. Oh the things I could do with a skull like that." So what does that make me?

Skeletal fashion models
I've heard of fashion models starving themselves but this is ridiculous!

Fashion models & skeletons

I love it when fashion photographers use skeletons in their shoots. These two pics are from a recent issue of Elle Italia.

Tim Burton fashion show
If you remember my "Blood Show" posting from the other day, you're already familiar with the
gorgeous fashion spreads that AE magazine runs. As it happens, this tribute to Tim Burton utilized the same stylist and artistic director, Kattaca. I know I'll be keeping an eye out for her next spread.

The Blood Show
It seems like all the best fashion spreads these days are coming out of foreign magazines. This
stuffed animal / butcher shop inspired spread comes from Madrid's AE magazine.

Skull & Crossbones in high fashion
I love skulls! Not only do they hold our brains in place but pictures of them look great on a t-shirt. Over the past year, the prevalense of skulls (and other anatomical graphics) on clothing has skyrocketed! What could once be found only in the stomping grounds of punk rockers now appears regularly in more mainstream and conservative fashion emporiums.
