Neighbors mistake dead body for Halloween decoration

Whoops! "A 75-year-old dead man sat decomposing on his Marina del Rey balcony for days because neighbors thought the body was part of a Halloween display and didn’t call police."

(Originally reported in the LA Times. Found via Boing Boing.)

Seems like everyone was more concerned that he went unnoticed, then the fact he was killed, or who killed him. I love the comment on Boing Boing "a single gunshot wound to the eye"...so he's blind?"

I work for Universal and there is a story that floats around every year about a maintenance tech who killed himself back stage by blowing off his head with a shotgun. Supposedly people walked past him for days before the smell and flies gave him away. Of course it was during Halloween Horror nights and they thought he was just another prop. I asked a friend who is a tech if that was a true story and he said he knew the guy, and that he did kill himself at work because his wife and kids left him. I sort of believe my friend, but who knows? Messed up story either way.

i actually think it's a fairly common phenomena. i was reading in one of my forensics books about a few cases of bodies being mistaken for halloween decorations.
