Remote control zombie

"Run! Hide! Barricade yourself in the basement of an abandoned farmhouse! This plastic remote control zombie will trudge forward and groan when you activate him by pressing the button on the brain-shaped remote."

Politically incorrect alphabet

Many of the other letters in this collection are "politically incorrect". These Halloween-themed examples? Not so much. Still, they would be a good way for my child to learn his letters. "Daddy, Daddy. V is for Vampire!"

Mystery box

What a great idea! When you approach this box, the lid slams shut and wont open. If you walk away from the box, the lid opens an inch or so. Eventually, if left alone, it opens all the way up. But as soon as you approach it again, it slams shut. (This would be particularly creepy if the lid creaked loudly when it opened and closed. Perfect for a haunted house.)

The early years

I was flipping through a photo album the other day and discovered these old images of my yard haunt. The first was taken back in 2003, the year my display made its debut. The second was taken in 2004. As you can see, that was the year I built my fence and uncovered my coffin. Since then, the display has grown considerably larger and my photography has become considerably better (thank you digital SLR cameras). I wonder how much more sophisticated it will all look in 2015.

Crayon skull

For the man who has everything, Vivre is selling a skull made out of crayons. For just $3600 you can have this larger than lifesize (16" x 10" x 4") skull by artist Herb Williams.

Skull spoons

I love these spoons by Pinky Diablo. Sadly though, they're all sold out. Hopefully he'll make more soon.

(Thanks to Kaelie for the recommendation.)

More skull tiki mugs

Exactly 1 year ago today I wrote about skull-shaped tiki mugs. Here are some more. (Available from Tiki Farm)

Little Rascals racer

My family was watching The Little Rascals tonight. (The 1994 feature film, not the classic movie shorts from the 30s & 40s.) In one of the final scenes, some bullies steal the Rascals' prize go-cart and re-paint it in this skull motif. What a creative paint job. I love it! Maybe Mrs. Bones will let me paint our car like this. (It would be the baddest looking Subaru station wagon this side of the Mississippi!)Still from the 1994 film The Little Rascals showing a go-cart painted in a skull motif

Werewolf plush toy

I recently picked one of these up for my youngest. Turn the lumberjack inside out and you have a fearsome werewolf. Needless to say, in my house, the lumberjack rarely makes an appearance.

Haunted Mansion office

When California-based animator James Lopez moved into a new house a few years ago, he decided to decorate his home office like Disney's Haunted Mansion. He went so far as to sculpt and build his own bat stanchions and library busts. I wish I had a Haunted Mansion-themed room in my house.

Halloween Survey

I've created a short online survey to learn how different people celebrate Halloween.
It should take you less than three minutes to complete.

Click here when you're ready to take the survey.

Once you've completed the survey, the most current results will be displayed. (And after a large enough number of people have responded, I'll post the final results here.)

**Update: Looks like people are neglecting to read the instructions at the top of the survey, so I'll give you the bullet points now: 1- Skip any questions that don't apply to you. (It's ok not to answer the questions about outside displays if you don't do an outside display.) 2- Pick the answer that's most accurate. (If you leave your display up for 6 days, go ahead and pick the answer that says "1 week". That's close enough.)

It's not what you think

Here's a good example of why you can't judge a book by its cover. When I first came across this image on Ffffound I thought "Wow. That's a cool Styrofoam skull." Then I did a little digging, discovered that it's by an artist named Fabio Viale, and he works exclusively in marble. That's right. The skull you see here was carved out of a solid piece of white MARBLE!! You should check out the guy's site. He's incredibly talented. He's managed to carve marble so it looks like everything from rolls of toilet paper, paper airplanes, paper bags and balloons. He even carved himself a marble boat that actually floats!

Another motorcycle hearse

After yesterday's "Motorcycle Hearse" posting, it was brought to my attention that our friends across the pond have a similar service. Motorcycle Funerals is England's first (and probably only) motorcycle hearse service. Clients can choose between a Triumph, Suzuki or Harley. My favorite part is their emphasis on how dignified this form of coffin transportation is. (Read their website. They mention the word "dignified" on almost every page. Hell, even their logo says "For a dignified final ride".) Cause when I think "motorcycle hearse" the first word that comes to mind is definitely "dignified".

Children's anatomy

While poking around the Dream Anatomy site yesterday, I discovered this section. Seems that they asked children between the ages of five and thirteen what they thought the body looked like “under the skin.” Here are a few examples of their work.
