Target hates your mom's homemade costumes

I get that they're in the business of selling costumes this time of year, but why did they have to make fun of crafty moms?  That's a pretty awesome looking Iron Man costume.

Google Maps Halloween

The Google Street View car hasn't come to my neighborhood yet, so every night I say a little prayer that they'll pass by while my yard is decked out for Halloween. Keep you fingers crossed for me. (Here are some folks who were lucky.)

Google turns up the darndest things

When you search for the word "Halloween" on Google Images often enough, you end up seeing some really unusual things. Here's one in particular that grabbed me. Unfortunately, there was no real description attached, so I can't tell you why these young women thought carving pumpkins nude was a good idea. (I also can't tell you what the woman in the middle is supposed to be dressed as. I mean, I get the "nude woman with knife through head" costume on the left, and "devil nude" on the right, but "nude nude" in the middle? Doesn't make any sense.

It's a Brooklyn Halloween!

Just because you don't have a big yard doesn't mean you can't decorate for Halloween. Check out this over-decorated yard in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. (Images via here and here)

Halloween Smurfs

I had no idea they made so many Halloween-themed Smurfs. Man, I sure do miss those little blue guys.

Too soon?

This is ridiculous! Last weekend (on September 26th, to be exact) a friend put a tiny assortment of Halloween decorations out in her garden. Since then, various neighbors and passersby have given her grief about displaying the props "too soon". Apparently, there's an unwritten rule restricting the exhibition of Halloween ornamentation prior to October 1st. Have you heard of such a thing? What do you think? Should people be allowed to display their holiday decor prior to the month of the intended holiday? (Click here to read about all the mayhem these 6 plastic skulls and tombstones caused.)

Rubik's Cube mosaic

Recently, I've been obsessed with the Rubik's Cube. It took me 28 days of practicing 30 minutes a day, but I can now solve any cube in less than 2 1/2 minutes. The next step for me? To start creating Halloween-themed mosaics out of the cubes like this guy.

Atomic Cheesecake

1950s style pin-up image of a blond model in front of a haunted house backdrop with a giant spider on her armNothing says "Halloween" to me quite like 1950s-style pin-ups. Atomic Cheesecake Studios does a great job of replicating that vintage feel. Obviously, I'm particularly fond of their Halloween-themed work. Yard haunt scale model

What a great idea! I should build one of these and keep it on display inside my house all year long so I wouldn't fall into my annual post-Halloween funk.

It's a Kellogg's Halloween!!!

Vintage advertisement showing a woman handing out boxes of cereal to trick or treaters in costume on HalloweenAccording to this article, "in 1958 both Post and Kellogg promoted individual cereal boxes as the perfect Halloween treat." I know I'm going to be in the minority here, but that's a movement that I could actually get behind. Obviously candy would be my first choice, but I'd rather get a box of cereal than an apple, pennies or raisins.
